Comment on FCA’s January Sales in Italy

FCA closed January with sales in Italy up 0.7% and market share at 28.5%. The Italian top ten was dominated by no less than seven FCA models. These included the Fiat Panda and 500X (top two) together with the Fiat 500, Fiat Tipo, Lancia Ypsilon, Fiat 500L and - for the first time - the Jeep Compass. Driven by results for the Compass and the Renegade, Jeep brand sales in January were up 107.7% year-over-year. Alfa Romeo also posted strong results, with the Stelvio (leader in its segment) and the Giulia driving a 28.3% increase in sales.

FCA sales in Italy were up 0.7% in January to nearly 50,700 vehicles, with market share at 28.5%.
In January, the Group continued its balanced management of market share and financial results in line with the closing months of 2017. The results of this strategy are reflected in the success of Alfa Romeo, which posted a 28.3% increase, and Jeep, which more than doubled sales compared with January 2017.

Fiat brand posted January sales of nearly 34,500 vehicles and market share was 19.4% for the month.
A total of five Fiat brand models - Panda, 500X, 500, Tipo and 500L - ranked in the Italian top ten in January. The Fiat Panda and 500 were first and second in the A segment, with a combined share of 57.1%. The Fiat Tipo (24.1% segment share), 500X (22.7% segment share), 500L (50.8% segment share), Spider (18.5% segment share) and Qubo (35.2% segment share) were also leaders in their respective segments.

Lancia posted January sales of 4,250 vehicles with market share at 2.4%.
The Lancia Ypsilon continued as one of the most popular vehicles in both the B segment and Italy overall.

Alfa Romeo posted a strong monthly performance, with January sales up 28.3% year-over-year to more than 4,500 vehicles and market share 50 basis points higher at 2.5%.
This result was driven by the Stelvio - once again leader in its segment with 1,140 vehicles sold and a share of 15.9% - and the Giulia, one of the most popular vehicles in the D segment with a 15.6% share.

Jeep sales were up 107.7% to more than 7,400 vehicles, representing the brand's best January ever in Italy. Market share also doubled, increasing 210 basis point to 4.2%.
Driving this result were the Renegade and the Compass. The Renegade was the second most popular vehicle in its segment (just behind the Fiat 500X) with a share of 14.0%. With nearly 3,700 vehicles sold, the Compass was leader in its segment (13.5% share) and ranked in the Italian top ten for the first time.
