Comment on FCA’s January Sales in Europe


  • In January, FCA sales in Europe totaled nearly 85,000 vehicles, increasing 1.2% year-over-year
  • Sales were particularly strong for Alfa Romeo (+24.4%) and Jeep (+68.1%)
  • The Fiat 500 and Fiat Panda continued to dominate the European A segment with a combined share of 28.5%Sales were up 5.0% for the Fiat 500L, 21.85% for the Fiat 500X and 4.5% for the Fiat Tipo
  • Jeep sales were also higher, driven by the Renegade, which continues among the leaders in its segment, and the Compass, which is rapidly climbing the rankings in its segment.


Fiat Chrysler Automobiles posted a positive result in January with sales in Europe (EU28 + EFTA) up 1.2% to nearly 85,000 vehicles. European market share was 6.6%.
For the major markets, FCA sales were up 0.5% in Italy, 9.6% in France (+2.5% for the industry) and 30.6% in Spain (+20.3% for the industry).


Fiat brand posted European sales of 59,900 vehicles in January, with market share at 4.7%.
For the major markets, brand sales were up 3.6% in France and 22.2% in Spain.
Fiat continued to dominate the European A segment with the Fiat 500 and Fiat Panda remaining the two most popular vehicles in their category in January. With nearly 30,000 vehicles sold, they accounted for a combined 28.5% segment share.
Sales of the Fiat 500L were up 5.0% year-over-year. For the Fiat 500X, sales were up 21.85% to more than 9,100 vehicles, making it one of the most popular models in its segment with a 7.5% share. For the Fiat Tipo, sales were 4.5% higher year-over-year to more than 10,000 vehicles.


Lancia/Chrysler sales totaled nearly 4,300 vehicles with market share at 0.3%.
The Lancia Ypsilon continued as one of the best-selling vehicles in Italy, the only market where the brand is sold, and in the Italian B segment.


The Giulia and the Stelvio continued to drive results for Alfa Romeo. Brand sales were up 24.4% year-over-year, with a total of nearly 7,500 vehicles sold, and market share was 10 basis points higher at 0.6%.
The brand outperformed the industry in nearly all major markets, with sales up 28.3% in Italy, 66.8% in Germany, 23.8% in France and 34.5% in Spain.


Jeep brand sales in Europe totaled more than 12,500 vehicles, an increase of 68.1% year-over-year.
The brand significantly outperformed the industry in nearly every major market. January sales were up 107.8% in Italy, 40.2% in Germany, 47.3% in France and 124.9% in Spain.
The Jeep Renegade, consistently one of the top ten in its segment, made another solid contribution and, with nearly 5,800 vehicles sold, the Jeep Compass is rapidly climbing the rankings in its segment.  


For Maserati, the Group's luxury brand, European sales in January totaled 774 vehicles.
