Comment on FCA's April Sales in Europe


  • Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) reported April sales in Europe of nearly 88,800 vehicles, representing a 6.6% market share. For the four months year-to-date, Group sales totaled nearly 348,700 vehicles and market share was 6.3%
  • In Germany, FCA posted an 18.2% sales increase in April, compared with a 1.1% decline for the market. Positive trend also for the year-to-date, with sales increasing 2.9%
  • Jeep posted a 7.1% increase for the year-to-date, with several brand models posting year-over-year gains: Wrangler (+88.2%), Cherokee (+24.85%), Renegade (+6.95%) and Compass (+3.7%)
  • Lancia sales were up 30.0% in April and 33.8% for the year-to-date, the highest sales growth of any brand in Europe. The Ypsilon was once again the best-selling vehicle in the Italian B segment
  • The Fiat Panda and Fiat 500 ranked first and second in the European A segment with a combined share of more than 30.0% for both April and the year-to-date

 

FCA posted European sales of nearly 88,800 vehicles in April, representing a 6.6% market share (compared with 6.0% in March). Year-to-date, Group sales totaled nearly 348,700 vehicles with European market share at 6.3%.
Results for the Fiat Panda and Lancia Ypsilon were particularly positive. The Panda was A-segment leader for both April and the year-to-date with sales up 49.1% in April to 18,300 vehicles and 20.5% year-to-date (-1.3% for the segment overall) to 71,700 vehicles. Sales of the Ypsilon (B-segment leader in Italy) were up 30.7% for the month (to 5,700 vehicles) and 33.9% for the year-to-date (to 24,200 vehicles).
In Germany, FCA sales increased 2.9% for the year-to-date and 18.2% in April, compared with a 1.1% market decline.

 

Results by Brand

Jeep posted April sales of nearly 13,700 vehicles with European market share at 1.0%. Year-to-date, brand sales were up 7.1% to 59,600 vehicles and market share was 0.1 percentage point higher at 1.1%.
Jeep significantly outperformed the market in Spain with sales up 25.2% year-over-year in April (+4.9% for the market) and 60.4% year-to-date (-3.9% for the market).
Results were positive for the Wrangler (+47.5% in April and +88.2% year-to-date), Cherokee (+5.4% in April and +24.85% year-to-date), Renegade (+4.8% in April and +6.95% year-to-date) and Compass (+3.7% year-to-date).

 

Alfa Romeo posted April sales of nearly 4,700 vehicles with market share at 0.3%. Year-to-date, brand sales totaled 19,400 vehicles and market share was 0.4%.
Brand sales were particularly positive in Spain, increasing 15.2% in April and 34.2% year-to-date.
The Stelvio posted a 1.3% year-over-year sales increase in April.

 

Fiat sales in April totaled more than 64,000 vehicles with market share 0.1 percentage point higher at 4.8%. Year-to-date, brand sales totaled more than 243,000 vehicles, accounting for a 4.4% share of the market.
Results were particularly positive in Germany, where brand sales increased 25.9% in April (share up 0.7 p.p. to 3.2%) and 6.3% for the year-to-date (share up 0.2 p.p. to 2.6%).
The Panda and 500 dominated the A segment with a combined share of 30.8% in April and 30.1% for the year-to-date. The Panda ranked first for both April (sales up 49.1% to 18,300 vehicles and share at 16.4%) and the year-to-date (sales up 20.5% to 71,700 vehicles and share at 15.6%). The 500 ranked second in the segment for April and the year-to-date. The Fiat 500L continued among the leaders in its segment. The Fiat Tipo was C-segment leader in Italy and continued to make gains outside Italy with share increasing 0.2 percentage points to 2.4% for the year-to-date. The 500X increased share outside Italy by 0.3 percentage points to 3.7%.

 

Lancia posted another strong monthly performance with sales up 30.0% year-over-year to more than 5,700 vehicles and European market share 0.1 percentage point higher at 0.4%. Year-to-date, brand sales were up a record 33.8% year-over-year to 24,300 vehicles with market share 0.1 percentage point higher at 0.4%.
The Lancia Ypsilon was leader in the Italian B segment for both April and the year-to-date. The new Black and Noir version is expected to further contribute to the model's success.
